The CFL preseason is in full swing and the odds have been released on who will become the 2022 Grey Cup Champions. Last year, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers took the trophy home and they are favourites to repeat.

There were many trades and acquisitions as some players found new homes in the offseason. And now coaches must debate over some upcoming roster cuts, as teams are required to downsize their rosters to 75 players by Saturday night.

Still, there is much excitement in the air from fans as this will officially be the first season since 2020 that arenas are permitted to be at full-capacity.

And even though there are still some preseason matchups to look out for on Friday, not much should change in terms of odds.

Here are our CFL futures picks for 2022.

2022 CFL Season futures picks overview

  • Winnipeg Blue Bombers to win Grey Cup at +225
  • Toronto Argonauts to win East Division at +150
  • Calgary Stampeders to win West Division at +250

Best bet: Winnipeg Blue Bombers to win Grey Cup at +225

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers took the title the last two seasons and are no doubt looking to secure it again this coming November. With an impressive CFL-best 11-3 record last year, the Blue Bombers led the league in a number of stats, including most passing yards by quarterback Zach Collaros and most rushing yards by running back Andrew Harris.

And though Harris will play for the Toronto Argonauts this season after completing six with the Blue Bombers, you can bet that Head Coach Mike O’Shea will not only make sure to put to use the team’s longtime valuable players, but also some newly acquired members.

Some who will likely have their go at filling Harris’ shoes on offense this season are running back Brady Oliveira and wide receiver Rasheed Bailey. Bailey is currently ranked No. 5 in the league in receiving yards and played a large part in the Blue Bombers securing the 108th Grey Cup, notably bringing the score to 33-25 with a two-point conversion in overtime. Newcomers who will try to make a mark include former Edmonton Elks wide receiver Greg Ellingson and 2022 13th overall draft pick, defensive back Tyrell Ford.

Though preseason is not necessarily the place to look when betting on futures, the Blue Bombers are showing promise so far. They lost their first preseason game 30-20 to the Edmonton Elks, but took back their pride at Mosaic Stadium against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, all without their star starting quarterback. But with Collaros likely returning to the field next week, expect more consistency from the Blue Bombers as they strive to edge their way back to the top.

Key stat: The Winnipeg Blue Bombers recorded a CFL-best 11-3 record in the 2021 season.

Quick picks

Toronto Argonauts to win East Division at +150:

With the addition of Harris and 2019’s Most Outstanding Player, wide receiver Brandon Banks (also known as Speedy B for being incredibly fast), there really is no safer choice than last season’s No. 1 team in the East Division, even with the Hamilton Tiger Cats trailing not far behind.

Calgary Stampeders to win West Division at +250:

Though the Blue Bombers are our best bet to take the title, the Calgary Stampeders could be the underdog you are looking for to claim the top spot of the West Division. With the return of a healthy Bo Levi Mitchell at starting quarterback and consistent communication (ignoring the confusion seen in parts of their first preseason game vs. the B.C. Lions), they might be able to stirrup just enough trouble to get there.
