What is a 'teaser'? | Betting 101
A teaser is like a modified parlay AND a spread bet combined, most often played as a two team, six point wager.
The ‘spread’ is the amount of points a team is likely to win or lose by, and a teaser lets you widen that margin to six or more points - BUT only if it's combined with at least one other result
The point spread for 49ers vs Lions and Seahawks vs Colts might look something like this:
- 49ers -7.5 vs Lions
- Seahawks +2.5 vs Colts
In a two-team 6-point teaser you can adjust both lines in your favour, giving you a new spread like this:
- 49ers -1.5 vs Lions
- Seahawks +8.5 vs Colts
The upside: the relative points spread now gives you a better chance of covering. The downside: both teams will need to win at the adjusted spreads for the teaser to be a winner.
That’s why this bet is a ‘tease’: it looks ‘friendlier, because more can go right, but it’s actually ‘frostier’, because there’s also more that can go wrong.
