What is a ‘Prop’ Bet? | Betting 101
From the latin proponere meaning "put forth, set forth, lay out, display, or expose to view" a ‘Proposition’ bet is basically a wager on stupid shit.
A prop bet is a bet on an individual player or event within a game - rather than on the overall result.
It's a proposition because you’re ‘proposing’ that something specific is gonna happen.
You can make a prop bet on anything - and I mean literally anything.
- Length of the Super Bowl anthem? We got ya.
- Whether a player will finish with exactly 69 yards? No problem.
- Who the MVP will thank first? Hundred per cent.
- Exact dollar value of the loose change found under the cushions of the assistant-manager’s sitting room couch? Well maybe not, but you get the idea.
Bet on which team or player will score first; which player will score the most goals; what the score will be at a certain point within the game; and even how many bookings or cards will be issued.
In fact, the only real limit on a prep bet is whether a bookie will give you odds.
And come to think of it, that may actually be a prop bet in and off itself.
