WTA Abu Dhabi Open

Seventh seed Anett Kontaveit will take on Shelby Rogers in the second round of the Abu Dhabi Open this afternoon.

Kontaveit has struggled to go beyond the round of 16 so far this season, with first round exits at the Adelaide International 1 and 2, followed by a second round elimination from the Australian Open.

That run of form means USA’s Shelby Rogers will come into today’s matchup feeling confident of an upset. The American booked her place in today’s round of 16 game courtesy of a three sets win over Canada’s Leylah Fernandez.

Rogers produced an outstanding service performance in that match, serving six aces and winning 46 out of 57 points.

The head-to-head record between Kontaveit and Rogers is 1-1, with the American coming away with the win last time they met at the 2021 Australian Open.

FA Women's League Cup: Arsenal vs. Manchester City

In the FA Women’s Super League, top of the table rivals Arsenal and Manchester City will battle it out tonight for a place in the Continental Tyres League Cup final.

Manchester City are the current holders of the trophy, while Arsenal are the competition’s most successful club having won the title on five previous occasions.

According to the league standings Arsenal are just ahead of the northern rivals, with the Gunners one spot higher in third place. But that advantage is by goal difference alone, and City’s recent form has been nothing short of sensational.

Gareth Taylor's side come into tonight’s clash on the back of a massive 16-game unbeaten run in all competitions that stretches all the way back to September last year.

Fourteen of those matches were straight wins, and the City defense has been insane -  conceding just five goals in over 1,700 minutes of football!

Arsenal will be without key forwards Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema, making their task all the more difficult. But cup games always serve up drama, so don't be surprised if City’s unbeaten run ends tonight.

You can follow all the action on The FA Player from 2:30 p.m. ET.
