Every week in the NFL there are games that you wished you stayed away from. Taking that big favourite sometimes results in you wishing you took the points with the underdog. So in this segment we’ll be looking at teams that covered the spread against big favourites in something we’ll be calling Bad Beats.

Without further ado here are the top 3 bad beats from NFL Week 5.

The Minnesota Vikings were 10 point favourites at home against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. I hope you didn’t fall into this trap by taking the Vikings because for as bad as the Lions record is they have shown fight and heart in every single game. They not only covered  but they should’ve won this game outright after Dan Campbell aka Mr. Balls of steel went for two and got it as the Lions took a 1-point lead with 37 seconds left. But then the Lions lost on a 54 yard last second FG making them the first team in NFL history to lose two games in one season on a last second FG from 50 yards or more. The other was Justin Tucker’s NFL record 66-yard game-winning kick. Poor Lions. It’s been a tough season for them but hey at least they covered the number.

The Las Vegas Raiders were 5.5 point favourites at home against the Bears. The Raiders fooled a lot of people with their 3-0 start and especially fooled them in this game when they laid a dud offensively. The Raiders only put up 9 points of offence against the Bears' stout defence as the Bears covered the spread and won the game outright 20-9. There were a lot of off the field distractions going into this game surrounding John Garden and him sending some very offensive emails 10 years ago. Then on Monday, John Gruden resigned as the Raiders head coach. Things have gone from bad to worse for Raider Nation.

This was one of the best MNF games I’ve ever seen. The Ravens were 7.0 point favourites at home against the Colts. Everyone was thinking this game would be a blowout with the Ravens easily winning by more than 7 points. Wrong. The Colts were the ones doing the blowing out early as they held a 22-3 advantage against Baltimore. But then Lamar Jackson went superman mode and turned it on. He led the Ravens to a 31-25 overtime comeback win while setting a franchise record with 442 passing yards on 37 completions and threw for 4 touchdowns. Bettors who laid the points with the Ravens were thinking where the heck was this type of offence at the start of the game. Despite the Colts almost pulling off the upset and losing this game in heartbreaking fashion, they still covered.
