Ole’s gone. The dream is over. And all that’s left is two questions. What went wrong? And who can fix it?

First - what went wrong? Maybe in the end it all came down to Ronaldo, because any ‘solution’ CR7 provided turned out to create more problems for Ole.

Bruno Fernadeshad a proven goalscorer to pick out, but his leadership and influence on the pitch were massively undermined.

Jadon Sancho was supposed to be the new superstar, and Cavani was supposed to be the new striker. But both lost their roles, and neither really recovered.

And Ronaldo’s winning mentality gave the whole team a boost at first, but then revealed a winning mentality was precisely what the whole team lacked.

So the question now is: who can fix it?

The candidates are all highly experienced AND highly qualified, so perhaps the only logical way to compare them is hair.

At one end of the spectrum is Zinadine Zidane. I challenge anyone to be more bald than this record-breaking Frenchman. Zizo coached Ronaldo to three Champions League Trophies at Real Madrid, so he could definitely galvanize the team and players. But apparently he’s holding out for a big job in the french league - which is kind of an oxymoron but you get the idea.

Next up is Ajax’s Erik ten Hag, who’s also as smooth as a newborn, BUT not afraid to mess things up a bit with some playful facial scruff. Ten Hag has Ajax playing nice football, and he’s definitely interested in the job. But Man Utd would have to wait till the summer as the Dutchman wants to see out the season with Ajax.

So the Utd board may have no choice but to pursue a manager with hair, in which case it's all about Brendan Rogers.

Now admittedly he doesn't have that much. It's basically a buzz cut with a hint of a fringe -  parted right to left. The style is modest but the footballing ambition is anything but. Rogers is a visionary and a motivator, and might be exactly what Man Utd need.

But if the club does press for a non-bald option, the more likely candidate is PSG’s Mauricio Pochettino - and it's not hard to understand why.

I mean just look at the versatility here - he can do buzzcut, short, and mid length. He can do clean-shavenand stubble. Heck as a player he was even ready to go full-on galactico when necessary.

There isn't much his hair can't do - but could Pochettino give Man Utd team the makeover they need? Well, for as long as Cristiano Ronaldo is both the solution AND the problem - it may not be much easier for any other manager.
