It’s been a while since your gracious host typed BREAKING NEWS, hence the use of all caps this first Thursday morn of June.

PointsBet is announcing the hiring of former Monkey Knife Fight presidente Nic Sulsky as the chief commercial officer - and employee numero uno - of its soon-to-be-opened Canadian operation. Both Sulsky and PointsBet USA CEO Johnny Aitken spoke with yours truly in advance for our weekly column for The Toronto Star. Not surprisingly, the loquacious Sulsky gave us more than enough bon mots and provided a few extras we could weave into the newsletter.

“To help usher in a distinct Canadian operation for PointsBet is an opportunity I couldn’t say no to,” said Sulsky, who left Monkey Knife Fight after steering the award-winning fantasy sports company through a hugely successful ride over almost four years that culminated in the business being sold earlier this year to Bally’s Corporation for $90 million (U.S.). “Our focus is going to be on creating this business and building a strategy that really appeals to the uniqueness of the Canadian sports fan.”
