WTA Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open
At the inaugural Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, Canada’s Bianca Andreescu will be in action against Yulia Putintseva of Russia.
Andreescu comes into the competition having successfully bounced back from a shoulder injury picked up at last week’s Hua Hin Championships. The 22 year old reached the semi-finals in Thailand before that pesky shoulder saw her lose in straight sets to Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko.
Andreescu’s opponent Yulia Putintseva arrives in today’s matchup on the back of a strong qualifying campaign in Abu Dhabi. She’s an aggressive player who will punish ANY sign of weakness from the Canadian - as she did last time out, with the head-to-head record is 1-0 in Putintseva’s favour.
Injuries aside though, a solid performance from Andreescu today should see her through to the next round… Catch today’s match on DAZN, TVA Sports or the Tennis Channel.
WTA Linz Open
In Austria, World No. 7 Maria Sakkari will step out onto centre court at the Tips Aerna today, with plenty to prove against Spain’s Parrizas Diaz, in the first round of the WTA Linz Open.
Sakkari comes into the competition as the top seed, but having recently suffered a third round exit from the Australian Open last month.
Despite posting victories against Petra Martic and Elise Mertens, Sakkari came unstuck against an outperforming Zhu Lin, and the Greek 27-year old will hope for a much better showing on the hardcourts in Austria.
Parrizas Diaz also reached the third round in Melbourne, scoring a massive upset against Beatriz Haddad Maia in the process. She followed that up by crashing out of the Lyon Open in the first round though, so the Spaniard is looking to bounce back with a big win here too.
The pair have met twice before with the head-to-head record honours-even, meaning this first round matchup could genuinely go either way. Tune in on DAZN, TVA Sports or the Tennis Channel.
