TORONTO (February 23, 2021) – As the Government of Canada moves closer to making it legal to bet on individual sports events, a group of Canadians with long-time ties to sports marketing and digital media have joined forces to launch The Parleh.

The digital newsletter, which is available via subscription, provides Canadian business leaders, investors, and fans with information, analysis and insight about the stories, the business, the technology and the people making things happen in the fast-growing world of sports betting. More details will be provided when The Parleh hosts a Launch Party on the Clubhouse app this afternoon (Tuesday) at 2 p.m. Eastern.

“We’ve seen a growing appetite for information around the legalization of sports betting in our country,” said Mark Silver, a digital media leader in Canadian sports for more than a decade and the catalyst behind The Parleh. “As we get closer to the federal government green lighting betting on individual events, Canadian businesses tied to sports will be eager to learn about the impact that legalization will have on everyone in the ecosystem.”

The Parleh’s team is led by long-time digital sports executive Mark Silver, acclaimed journalist Steve McAllister, the former Sports Editor of The Globe and Mail, and Managing Editor – Sports for Yahoo Canada, and current President of Sports Media Canada, former long-time TSN executive Mike Day, Kevin Kennedy, the creator of Homestand Sports which has delivered the Footy Talks, Hoop Talks and Puck Talks events to sports fans across North America, Jonah Morris, former digital product lead for TSN, and Gavin Roth, one of Canada’s most experienced and respected sponsorship sales and marketing leaders.

The new venture has already caught the attention of stakeholders in Canadian sport.

“Having a credible and informed newsletter dedicated to sports betting in Canada is helpful and I commend the editors and contributors at The Parleh for taking the initiative,” said Jim Lawson, CEO, Woodbine Entertainment. “Sports betting is an exciting opportunity for the Canadian economy and it’s beginning to move rather quickly. This initiative is important as it will keep a wide group of participants and interested parties well informed as this emerging sector in our economy evolves.”

You can subscribe to The Parleh here and follow on Twitter at @theparleh. In addition to the release of the newsletter on Thursday mornings, The Parleh team will host weekly events to discuss the latest news around sports betting.
