Gushue suffered his first loss of the trials to Jason Gunnlaugson, dropping his record to 5-1 Wednesday on the prairies.

Gunnlaugson was +6100 to win the trials at the beginning of the bonspiel.

The 2006 Olympic Champion now heads into a contest with Tanner Horgan in Draw 14.

Horgan is 1-4, with his lone win of the tournament coming in a tight 6-5 result over Brendan Bottcher.

Gushue is bound to be focused ahead of the three-team playoff, and a win over Horgan would set his squad back in the right direction.
