Initial Thoughts

Still seeking a first away win of the campaign, TFC will have their work cut out to buck a trend on Wednesday night, when Bob Bradley’s side head to the TQL Stadium to take on FC Cincinnati.

The Narrative

Top of both the Eastern Conference and overall MLS standings, FC Cincinnati are enjoying their best ever season in the North American top flight.

Pat Noonan’s side have suffered just a single loss all year and head into Wednesday night’s game looking to match a 20 year MLS record for consecutive wins at home.

Cincinnati could power that tally into double figures with a victory against Toronto FC at the TQL Stadium, having so far won all nine fixtures in front of their home fans this season.

Toronto FC’s expensively assembled squad continues to misfire, with promising starts and leads taken invariably petering out. Bob Bradley’s side have tied more than 50% of their matches this season and arrive in Cincinnati without a single victory on the road in 2023.

Nuts and Bolts

Unbeaten in both the league and the U.S Open Cup since mid April, the Orange and Blue have taken 34 points from a possible 39 in a run that’s seen them rack up 11 wins in their last 13 matches.

In contrast, TFC have averaged just a single point per game across their last 13 outings, with seven draws, four defeats and only two victories since the start of April.

After losing three away fixtures in a row against Philadelphia Union, CF Montreal and Austin FC, Bradley’s side were seconds away from a first road victory of the season against Minnesota United back on June 3rd.

But an 89th minute equalizer from Kervin Arriaga saw TFC surrender both the lead and two points yet again; a feat that was repeated one week later in Toronto’s 1-1 draw against Nashville at BMO Field.

TFC have failed to find the net in four of their last six games away from home, while Cincinnati have racked up 12 goals in their last six matches at the TQL Stadium.

Aiming for a tenth straight win in front of their home fans, Cincinnati also have a perfect record against Toronto at the TQL - coming away 2-0 victors in both of their previous meetings.

Bob Bradley’s side will have to put on a near-perfect performance to get anything out of this game. But perfection is something this particular TFC side has been nowhere near in the 2023 campaign.

Homestand Picks

All odds courtesy of Northstar Bets

Luciano Acosta anytime goal (+128)

Top scorer for the Orange and Blue this season, Argentinian attacking midfielder Luciano Acosta has eight for the season and scored in each of Cincinnati's last three matches at home.

Parlay: FC Cincinnati & Both teams NOT to score (+200)

TFC have failed to find the net in two of their last three away fixtures. Pat Noonan’s side are about as high on confidence as you can get. Against Bob Bradley’s stuttering superstars FC Cincinnati will be ruthless, and this could turn into a very one-sided game of football.
