Is goal-scoring one of the best things in the whole world - ever?

I’d take that as a yes.

Right, we’re talking EPL top scorers this season. And I know what you’re thinking:

  • Mo Salah banging them into the onion bag at Anfield
  • Harry Kane serving up goal-sandwich-galore at Spurs
  • Jamie Vardy scoring beauties like he quote ‘just don’t care’ at Leicester (note: pronounced Lester)

But what about the wild cards and dark horses?

Jesse Lingard couldn't stop scoring for West Ham during his loan spell last season. So might ‘J Linz’  get up there in the scoring charts this year (image 5)

Well, he might - if Solskjaer figures out what his first team looks like, which doesn’t appear to be happening anytime soon.

Lingards’ ex-West Ham teammate Michail Antonio has been on fire this season and just became the team’s top all time EPL goal scorer.

Did he celebrate by holding aloft a life-size cardboard cutout of himself? Yes. Was he holding it the wrong way around? Yes. Can we give him the benefit of the doubt there? I don’t think so.

Danny Ings’ low-to-no-profile move from mid-table Southampton to mid-table Aston Villa was about one thing, and one thing only: long term financial security for him and his family. No, wait - I meant goals! It was about goals.

Can Ings fulfill his goal scoring potential this season and force his way back onto the extreme outer edge of the England bench?

With two goals in six games I’m saying quote ‘perhaps.’

And finally - here me out here - what about last year’s dark horse Gareth Bale? He was only at Spurs on loan for six months , but still scored 11 goals in 20 games, with many of those coming from the bench.

Who’s to say Bale won't be airlifted into Newcastle in the January transfer window and tear up the scoring charts?

Stranger things have happened - and with Newcastle now officially the richest club in the world stay tuned for all kinds of craziness on Tyneside.
