2023 Canada Winter Games

The 2023 Canada Winter games will wrap up later this week but there’s still plenty of time for drama before the games officially conclude on Sunday.

In particular there are four events to keep an eye on today, with action from three different sports broadcast live on CBC Sports from Prince Edward Island.

First up are the Badminton finals and bronze medal matches at 11 a.m. ET, followed by figure skating at 1.25 p.m. ET, and then the bronze and gold matchups in women’s judo at 1:30 p.m. ET.

2023 ISU World Speed Skating Championships

Canada’s finest speed skaters will take to ice in Heerenveen, Netherlands at the 2023 ISU World Speed Skating Championships which kick off today and run until March 5th.

The Canadian women arrive in Holland on the back of one of their most successful World Cup seasons of the past decade, with Ivanie Blondin taking 1st place in the 500m and Mass Start, while the the Team Pursuit squad comprising Blondin along side Isabelle Weidemann and Valérie Maltais also finished first overall.

All eyes will also be on South Korean speed skater Kim Min-sun, who’s scooped five out of six ISU World Cup titles in the 500m this season and is looking to crack the top ten for the first time in her career.

Catch all the action on CBC Sports from 8:55 p.m. ET.

WTA Monterrey Open

In sunny Mexico today, world No.5 Caroline Garcia will take on the 78th-ranked Nuria Parrizas Diaz in the second round of the Monterrey Open.

Garcia has never been eliminated before the semifinal stage in Monterrey, and the number one seed has won a pair of titles and gone 30-14 on hard courts over the past year.

Nuria Parrizas Diaz of Spain booked her place in the second round courtesy of a three sets win against China’s Wang Xiyu. And she’ll have her work cut out against Garcia when the two face off at 8 p.m. ET.

Fourth seed Elise Mertens also faces a difficult task when she takes on Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania.

Mertens won both of the previous meetings between the two players, but this time round Ruse arrives on the back of a massive upset in round one of the competition, where she eliminated Merida Open champion Camilla Giorgi.

Ruse vs. Mertens is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. start time and you can catch both matches on DAZN, the Tennis Channel and TVA Sports.
