There’s many reasons to enjoy World Cup qualifying… but for Canadian fans, how is this….

Canada is quite often a favourite these days…. In fact for Fridays tilt against Costa Rica, they are big favourites… this against a Costa Rica team that is a perennial World Cup Qualifier, and generally speaking the third best side in Concacaf….

Now, the main reason is that as I’m sure you all know, we’re kind of entering a bit of a Golden Generation thing… Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David, Cyle Larin…. Guys like Tajon Buchanan and Stephean Estaquio well on their way… but let’s dumb it down a bit to specifically this match….

The weather will be cold… we’re talking minus temperatures in Edmonton… now obviously this suits Canada more than Costa Rica, but it’s not as if all the Costa Ricans are not used to cold temps, and it’s not as if all the Canadians are used to cold temps… but the advantage is that Canada have had several days in Edmonton to prepare, while Costa Rica will have one full session to acclimatize….

And that also is in regards to the turf…. This is not Wembley and although modern turf is pretty amazing technology, it does take some getting used to…. So, the intangibles really suit John Herdman’s Canada in this one… so even though Canada does have many of the better players, it’s the other stuff that is really factoring into Canada as the Favourite… which for all you long time fans, must sound pretty damn great.
