Bianca Andreescu vs. Emma Raducanu @ 11 a.m. ET: Tennis Channel, TVA Sports, TSN3

They both won the U.S. Open as teenagers. They’ve both seen a meteoric rise derailed by injuries. And they were both just dumped out at Indian Wells by Iga Swiatek.

Emma Raducanu and Bianca Andreescu have more than a few things in common as the two former WTA top ten ranked players line up against each other in the first round of the Miami Open 2023 at 11 a.m. ET today.

Bianca Andreescu went all the way to the final in Miami back in 2021 and the 22 year old arrives at this year’s tournament with a 6-6 record on the season.

The Canadian’s strongest display so far in 2023 came at the Thailand Open last month, where Former World No. 4 Andreescu racked up three straight sets wins to arrive in the semi-finals, only to be forced to retire after a recurrent shoulder injury forced her off the court yet again.

The BNP Paribas Open brought more disappointment as Andreescu was made to work hard in a three set win over World No. 113, and was then dispatched from the competition in straight sets by top seed Iga Swiatek.

Emma Raducanu became the first player in the modern era to win the U.S. Open from the qualifying rounds back in 2021. But it's fair to say that since then the Brit has failed to live up to her own hype.

The 20 year old has only made it to four quarterfinals in the last three years, and has just five wins on the season so far in 2023.

But three of those came this month at Indian Wells, where Raducanu produced big wins against Beatriz Haddad Maia and Magda Linette and 20th to power through to the last 16 of the BNP Paribas Open.

Having already eliminated Andreescu, Iga Swiatek demolished Raducanu 6-3, 6-1, but the British starlet will take great confidence from her time in the California desert.

The head to head record is 1-0 in Andreescu's favour. But that 6-2, 2-1 involved yet another injury after  Raducanu was forced to retire when the two players faced each other in Rome last year.

Provided they’re both able to finish this match - and providing they’re both able to play they’re best tennis - we could be in for a CLASSIC encounter in Miami this morning.

The Programme Picks

Bianca Andreescu Moneyline (-120)

Raducanu will be encouraged by that run at Indian Wells but Andreescu is the more skilful and tenacious player at her peak.

3 Total sets (+110)

The Brit is strong enough to win a set here though, so we see this match going the distance.
