The last time Toronto and Carolina faced each other was one of the lowest points in Maple Leafs history, when 42-year-old emergency goaltender David Ayres picked up an unforgettable victory. Fast forward 20 months, and Toronto finds itself just as desperate for a win on Monday night.

After a disappointing 7-1 loss to The Wilkes Barrie-Scranton PenguinsPittsburgh  on Saturday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs turn their attention to the undefeated Carolina Hurricanes, backstopped by former Maple Leaf Frederik Andersen.

The Freddie has had a great start to his Hurricanes career, Danish net-minder has enjoyed a resurgence in Carolina so far this year, posting 1.75 goals against average in his four victor but it’s a little soon to see if he can fill David Ayres shoes.

Things in Toronto right now are a bit of a dumpster fire but they’ve got the lowest shooting percentage in the NHL - the damn is going to breakies. In a revenge game against the team that opted not to re-sign him, you know that Andersen will be looking to continue that success behind the best defence in the NHL.

For Toronto, Monday’s game is as much of a must-win as you can have seven games into a season. However, the top six talent is simply too good to stay silent for long. and regression is coming.

Both teams have combined for 23 goals in their two most recent head-to-head matchups, and despite the lack of success offensively that the Maple Leafs have had this year, if there’s any team that know show to beat Freddie, Andersen’s deficiencies, it’s Auston Matthews’ squad.

Here are my picks:

·    As he chases his first goal of the season, hit Auston Matthews over 4.5 shots on your slip at -110

·    Take the over 6.0 at -115 between two of the top seven teams in the NHL for shots on goal
