13 Jun #DunkOnCancer event raises $10,000 for cancer research
This past Sunday, #DunkOnCancer hosted a special NBA Finals panel and discussion event at The Rec Room in Toronto. The event, created by Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer with the help of Hoop Talks raised over $10,000 for cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The sold-out night featured some of the biggest names in basketball media, including Zach Lowe, all four of The Starters, Tom Haberstroh, Howard Beck, Chris Haynes and Taylor Rooks (full lineup can be found in photos below).
“Walking into The Rec Room and seeing a lot of people already there was a thrill,” said O’Connor, “especially since we had only four full days to plan the event. All the panels were stellar, with the guests bringing such great energy, insight, and humour.”
The event featured four panels: a series breakdown, a Raptors panel and a Warriors panel plus a panel explaining what the #DunkOnCancer charity is all about.
“I appreciate everyone who came to the event and donated, both the attendees and the crowd,” said O’Connor. “It was a special night for a good cause with all the money going toward cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. We raised $10,000, which is remarkable. And thank you for all the help from Kevin Kennedy and his staff in making the event happen as smoothly as it did. It’s a night I’ll always remember.”
